Hi! I’m Rachel Alerte, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
I believe that you are the author of your own story. Oftentimes because we are personally invested in our story, we forget about our access to available resources and skills.
I also believe that with a supportive, healing space you can let go of the parts of your story that no longer serve you. I am fortunate to be a witness to my clients sharing their experiences and assisting them in reclaiming their stories.

What It's Like to Work with Me
Therapy is a collaborative process in which we work together to understand the parts of your story that are most important in aligning with your goals.
We will explore how to get ‘unstuck’ from old hurts and identify what you need to best support your new story. You will walk away from every session with a new piece of your story to reflect and build upon.
I strongly believe that in therapy my clients do the heavy lifting by choosing to make changes that better suit their lives. I intend to validate your experiences, invite you to face challenges head on, and learn healthy coping skills to maintain your progress.
The most impactful way to begin unpacking your story is to commit to weekly or biweekly sessions. This serves as your first practice in building consistency in attending to your needs first.

My Approach
I draw from various therapeutic approaches including mindfulness, cognitive-based compassion, attachment theory, emotion-focused and experiential practices. I acknowledge that our thoughts shape our reality and strive to help you deconstruct your limiting beliefs about yourself.
I understand that we sometimes are unable to sit with our thoughts as a result of emotionally traumatic experiences. I assist you with increasing your connection between the mind and body through experiential practices such as meditation, grounding and art.
These tools help increase your emotional tolerance for the negative parts of your experience and expand your acceptance of the duality of your inner world. Another key piece is to develop a loving-kindness relationship with your inner critic and develop sustainable self-care practices to decrease negative self-talk.
Through my implementation of reflective listening and compassionate challenging of protective emotions, you will feel more confident in expressing your needs to others.

A Bit More About Me
I know what it feels like to be a passenger in your life rather than sitting in the driver’s seat. Through my own healing journey, I have learned to lean into the discomfort and have successfully helped many clients to do the same.
I acknowledge my privilege in sitting with you in your story and actively take steps to honor this unique therapeutic relationship.
I welcome the opportunity to help you revisit, reframe and realign with the preferred story of your life.
